Connecting to SIO FTP Server

Anonymous FTP address: ftp.sio.ucsd.edu

Distribute this address to folks with whom you want to share data:

Command line access: ftp.sio.ucsd.edu/<username>

or

Browser-based FTP clients: ftp://ftp.sio.ucsd.edu/<username>

[Where "<username>" matches your FTP user directory on beach.ucsd.edu]

 

Instructions for uploading files to: beach.ucsd.edu, (which hosts filesharing services at SIO, and for the FTP server).

Below you will find instructions for connecting and authenticating to the Scripps IT file server: beach.ucsd.edu*

Beach is the main file server which hosts project and ftp directories. See below for instructions for connecting to beach with the various supported operating systems. If you have problems with connecting to beach or file ownership permissions or you would like us to create a project directory, please contact the Scripps IT support team by phone (x48484) or email siohelp@ucsd.edu.

 
With the exception of web services we have consolidated all informational data and ftp directories in one location that can be accessed through the server: beach.ucsd.edu. The following will help you connect to beach on the various platforms that we support. Please note that if you are off campus or on the guest wireless you will have to connect through the campus VPN:

Off Campus:

Go to: http://vpn.ucsd.edu 
and connect with your campus username and password.

How to connect to the beach file server via cifs file sharing:

Windows:

In the windows explorer window type:

\\beach.ucsd.edu\ftp

authenticate with your IOD username and password.

Mac:

In the Finder choose:

Go -> Connect to Server

Type:

smb://beach.ucsd.edu/ftp

authenticate with your IOD username and password.

Linux:

sftp beach.ucsd.edu
cd /www/ftp

FileZilla:

An alternate client to use would be FileZilla with the the following URL: sftp://beach.ucsd.edu
https://filezilla-project.org/

Directory structure:

All data and lab space are divided up under various named project directories under the root level on beach.
